Treatment of Pigmented Lesions using Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
What Is This Treatment?
Intense Pulse Light Treatment, known as IPL, treats pigmented lesions, age spots, and sun spots by targeting melanin with a bright pulsed light. This treatment can be done on essentially any body part that has dark spots from the sun, and the most common spots include the face, chest, and hands.
What Is The Downtime?
There is essentially no downtime from this laser treatment. Patients may experience redness of the skin immediately following the treatment, however this shall go away within a few hours. The treated dark spots will get darker within the first few days after the treatment, and these spots will eventually slough off after about 7-14 days following the treatment date. It is highly advised to stay out of direct contact with the sun for 2 weeks following the treatment, as the treated skin will be sensitive to the sun.
Can It Be Combined With Other Treatments Or Procedures?
IPL can be combined with Laser Genesis, which targets any fine lines, scarring, acne, rosacea, and wrinkles.
Who Is A Good Candidate For It?
Any fair skinned individual who has experienced sun damage and has dark spots from the sun.
How Many Treatments/Visits Are Recommended?
Number of treatments needed will vary amongst patients. It is recommended to repeat this treatment every 6 weeks, until desired outcome.
When Will I See Results?
You will begin seeing results a few days after your treatment. The treated dark spots will start to get darker, and within 7-14 days, they will slough off.
